Removal of wall defacement under way in Villupuram
VILLUPURAM: The exercise of erasing the defacement of walls and other public places in Villupuram district has begun.
District Collector R.Palanisamy has stated that in the recently convened all-party meeting it was informed that the campaign materials put up in the public places, including wall writings, should be removed within 48 hours.
In the case of those political parties or candidates who had not done so the government officials were carrying out the job. Before doing so, the extent of defacement was being videographed and so also after its removal.
The video clippings would be sent to the Election Commission. Moreover, the Collector said, the expenses incurred on this score would be claimed from the respective political parties and it would also be added to the poll expenditure accounts of the candidates concerned.
Mr Palanisamy further said that block-level monitoring committees, comprising the respective Tahsildar and Inspector of Police, had been formed to keep an eye on any possible violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
The removal of defacement of the long stretches of the parapet walls of the bridge across the Then Pennaiyar at Kandrakottai was undertaken on Wednesday.
