VILLUPURAM: The first phase of upgrading Stanley Hospital will begin shortly, according to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
In a statement, he said the cost of the first phase would be Rs.25 crore.
A total of Rs.100 crore would be spent for improving its condition.
Infrastructure of the Chengalpattu and the Kilpauk hospitals would be improved at a cost of Rs.25 crore each.
The works would be taken up soon.
Expansion of the Rajaji Hospital in Madurai had been approved and Rs.22 crore set apart.
A sum of Rs.21 crore had been sanctioned for constructing hostels in Chengalpattu, Tirunelveli, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Madurai, Kilpauk and Stanley medical colleges and the Chennai Dental College.
A building for the Dental College would be built at a cost of Rs.13 crore. Civil works for the Villupuram Medical College Hospital had been approved at a cost of Rs.41 crore and would begin soon, the Chief Minister said.
