CUDDALORE: On the first day of filing of nominations for the Lok Sabha elections on Friday, a rebel Congress candidate filed his papers for the Cuddalore constituency.
K. Rayar, a resident of Villupuram and chairman of the Jayasuriya Educational Trust, filed three nominations – two as the Congress candidate and one as Independent.
In his affidavit, he stated that over 40 cases were filed against him. He had assets worth Rs.16 crore.
Asked how he could claim himself to be a Congress candidate when his name did not figure in the official list, Mr. Rayar said it could be due to oversight.
He was sure that before the withdrawal of nominations the party would approve his candidacy.
District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo, who is also the District Electoral Officer, said Mr. Rayar had not filed Forms A and B to establish his party affiliation.
