The World India 35 people lose vision after free eye camp

illupuram, Tamil Nadu: At least 35 people, including seven women, here yesterday complained of loss of vision after treatment for their eye ailments at a free eye camp in late July.

The camp had earlier left 20 other people blind.

The victims have been admitted to a government hospital here, 180km south of Tamil Nadu capital Chennai, and were being administered medicines to reduce pain.

The state government on Monday announced that Rs500,000 (Dh45,450) would be paid as solatium to each of the 20 victims who lost their eyesight during the camp conducted by a private hospital.
