Marathon laying stress on importance of sports held

VILLUPURAM: The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, Rotary Clubs and the District Athletics Association organised a marathon to stress on the importance of sports here on Wednesday.
The event was held in three categories — men, boys and girls. District Collector Brajendra Navnit, who flagged off the marathon, called upon the students to involve themselves in sports, besides concentrating on their studies. MLA S. Pushparaj, Villupuram Municipal Chairman K. Janakaraj and Rotary District Governor Sivagnana Selvam participated. The winners were given cash prizes of Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 and certificates in each category.
The following are the winners in different categories:
Men – S. Murugan and K. Ranjit of Arignar Anna government arts college, Villupuram, and A. Arunkumar of Thirukkoilur. Boys – S. Anandbabu and N. Moovendan of Kamarajar municipal higher secondary school, Villupuram, and, D. Vijaya of Manalurpet government higher secondary school.
Girls – S. Seethalakshmi of Thirunavalur government girls higher secondary school, K. Indira of Virattikuppam government higher secondary school and K. Sasirekha of Villupuram government girls higher secondary school.
