Kamal v/s Lord Vishnu in DASHAVTAR v/s DASHAVTAR clash
In perhaps the history of world cinema, for the first time ever two films with the same theme would be releasing within one week of each other.
Though something similar has happened in case of Bhagat Singh saga where as many as 4 films with the same story released on the same day, the factor which makes all the difference here is the film making medium.
We are talking about DASHAVTAR which has been made in Live as well as animation format. Though the basic premise of the two films is same, that of Lord Vishnu's 10 different avtars, Kamal Hassan's film has him playing 10 different roles while the other version has Lord Vishnu in an animated avtar.
Produced by Oscar Ravichandran and directed by K.S. Ravikumar, Kamal Hassan's DASHAVTAR is a multi starrer with Asin, Mallika Sherawat, Jaya Pradha and Napolean amongst others. Set on a grand scale, the film traverses from 1000 years back till the current time. On the other hand Animation Phoebus Media's animated DASHAVTAR too is a multi starrer in its own right since it too has a horde of characters filling up the frames.
Yet again a film which travels thousands of years and hence projecting the journey of Lord Vishnu, the animated version incorporates voiceovers of prominent Bollywood artists like Shatrughan Sinha, Sachin Khedekar, Shreyas Talpade, Roopa Ganguly, Tom Alter and Aashish Vidyarthi. The film is produced by Vimal Shah and directed by Bhavik Thakore.
For audience it is a good choice to pick on now. If in mood for a Live movie, check out Kamal's DASHAVTAR on 6th June. And if you want to follow it up with an animated story unfolding on the big screen, there is another DASHAVTAR for you on 13th June!

PMK leader Guru arrested in Tamil Nadu(Lead)
Chennai, July 5 (IANS) Controversial PMK leader J. Guru, also known as Kaduvetti Guru, was arrested on murder charges Saturday and was sent to Tiruchi central prison after being produced in court, police said. Guru was picked up from his residence in Kaduvetti, about 300 km south of Chennai. His judicial remand will last till July 18, when he will again be produced in court.
Guru has been arrested on charges of attempting to murder a former party worker who joined the AIADMK.
Hundreds of protesting PMK leaders including former union minister A.K. Moorthy were also arrested in several northern Tamil Nadu towns, including the capital.
Earlier, along with Guru, president of the Vanniyar Sangam, the caste group which forms the main vote bank of the PMK in northern Tamil Nadu districts eleven volunteers were arrested.
PMK founder S. Ramadoss and president G.K. Mani alleged the move was a political vendetta.
“It is a matter of shame that Guru has been arrested on trumped up charges. We will demonstrate peacefully demanding his release,” Ramadoss said during a media interaction in Tiruchi.
“Thousands of our innocent party colleagues have been unjustly arrested exposing a shameful police action,” Mani added.
Police reinforcements have been posted in PMK-dominated districts of Villupuram, Ariyalur and Perambalur, officials said.
The PMK was an alliance partner of the ruling DMK until mid-June, lending the M. Karunanidhi government outside support.
It was ousted from the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance June 17 after top ruling party functionaries including ministers Arcot N. Veerasamy and Durai Murugan presented recorded evidence of inflammatory speeches by Guru against the governmemnt.
The PMK is a partner in the ruling United progressive Alliance government at the centre, along with the DMK.

Plus Two results on Friday
VILLUPURAM:The results of Plus Two examinations held in March will be announced on Friday.
About 5,87, 245 students took the test in Tamilnadu and Puducherry.
An Education Department statement said 2,78,673 boys and 3,08,572 girls appeared for the examinations. The number was up by 30,000 from last year as students from 810 schools took part in the series ot tests.Over 50,000 teachers have been involved in evaluating the candidates. The results will be announced by Vasanthi Jeevanantham, director of Government Examinations in Chennai. Simultaneously, the results would be published at schools and the mark lists have been sent to them.
More time
It may be noted that this year students were given additional 10 minutes to go through the question papers. The extra time has helped them read and understand the questions properly before answering. This is expected to help them score more marks and improve the pass percentage in the public examinations. With the government scrapping Common Entrance Test (CET) for professional courses, only the marks scored at the Board examinations are considered for admission to professional courses. Hence, the Education Department had worked hard to see that the results were announced early. This would provide more time for students to select the course and college.
New colleges
Meanwhile, State Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy on Tuesday announced that the government would start five new government engineering colleges at Villupuram, Panruti, Tindivanam, Nagapattinam and Ramanathapuram.
The government had also decided to accept the demand of self-financing engineering colleges to relax the entry requirement for admission, he said.
Noting that last year alone, 10,000 engineering seats were left vacant, Ponmudy said the qualifying mark for admission to engineering colleges in the State would be reduced by five percentage points, from 60 per cent to 55 per cent in the general category, 55 to 50 per cent for OBCs, 50 to 45 per cent for MBCs and a simple pass mark for SCs and STs.
This would make it easier for rural students to gain access to technical education, he added.
